Assignments
For Monday 11/18:
1) Create your website at www.weebly.com. Preferably: "h5yourlastname".
2) Create a Homepage:
Choose a theme.
Get familiar with your Weebly webpage options and settings. You will be using:
BLUE MENU BAR at the top to "BUILD" and "DESIGN" your site, and to add and format "PAGES".
GRAY COLUMNS at the left to insert TITLE, TEXT boxes, IMAGES, SLIDESHOWS, etc.
GRAY COLUMNS at the left to add MEDIA (audio, youtube clips, and more).
Add "American Identity Project" and your name to your homepage.
Upload a defining American image from any period. Choose an image that YOU consider iconic/defining.
3) Go to PAGES on the blue menu bar. Add a Blog Page (Not a Standard Page) and name it "1770 to 1850".
For Tuesday 11/19:
Upload 5 images of your choice to your "1770-1850" blog page. Each image should be a separate blog entry.
Next to or under each, insert a text box. In the text box, explain the historical context of each image and how it reflects or defines an emerging and distinct American Identity.
For Wednesday 11/20: FIELD TRIP TO MFA
Before heading to Boston, add a new blog page: "MFA Project", subtitle: "In Search of the American Identity at the MFA".
Review the slideshow of selected artwork you will view at the MFA.
Go to MFA PROJECT page on this website for the PROJECT DIRECTIONS including the list of works to reflect on.
For Thursday 11/21 and Friday 11/22:
1) Upload 7 (or more) images from the Art of the Americas Galleries to your MFA Project page.
Each image should be a distinct entry.
Use your own photos or download images from the MFA's website; go to "Collections" and search by title or artist.
Your MFA Project page must include:
2 portraits
2 defining events
2 landscapes
1 object
You are welcome to add more.
2) Add text boxes with a PARAGRAPH on each work of art.
Include factual background:
a) title, artist, and date
b) historical context
Consider how the image reflects the American Identity:
c) American ideals and ideas
d) American economy, politics, society, leadership
Reflect on the impact of the image, the impression it made on you when you stood before it:
e) scale, light, color
3) Add a new blog page: "Freedom Trail Project", subtitle: "In Search of the American Identity along Boston's Freedom Trail".
Upload at least 3 images from your exploration of Colonial and Revolutionary sites, statues, gravestones, and markers.
Make sure each image is a distinct blog entry.
Add a text box to each image with your description and analysis.
For Monday, 11/22: COMPLETED website due.
At that time, your website and pages will be evaluated on design, content, and quality of writing and reflection.
For Tuesday, 11/25:
You will access 3 of your peers' websites (you will be assigned specific sites).
Choose 2 images per website and POST YOUR RESPONSES.
Total reflections/posts: 6.
You will be evaluated on the quality of your comments.
How do you write a response? If your classmate read his entry aloud around our Harkness Table, what would be your intellectual and thoughtful response? Continue his discussion of the selected image, and of American Identity. What new insights can you contribute?
All new assignments will now be posted on the relevant Project Page.
